From live music and cultural celebrations to outdoor experiences, food-focused events and community gatherings, there are countless ways to make the most of the summer season. Whether you're dancing along to Cumbia Night, exploring local art at the Long Beach Art Walk, enjoying waterfront entertainment, or joining one of the many neighborhood events happening throughout the city, August is the perfect time to discover new experiences and celebrate the vibrant spirit of Long Beach.
Long Beach Food Scene Week | [Times vary by place] | 7.31.26-8.9.26
From Friday, July 31, through Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, Long Beach Food Scene Week will bring together more than 100 local restaurants, cafés and pop-ups with exclusive dishes, prix fixe menus, limited-time discounts and special collaborations that celebrate the city's diverse culinary scene.
The event also provides a much-needed boost for local restaurants during August, traditionally one of the industry's slowest months, encouraging diners to explore neighborhood favorites while discovering somewhere new.
For many participating restaurants, Food Scene Week is a chance to showcase something guests can't get any other time of year. Some create brand-new dishes specifically for the event, while others bring back crowd favorites or debut thoughtfully curated tasting menus. Phnom Penh Noodle Shack and Battambong BBQ are reuniting to serve their Cambodian Cowboy Dry Noodles — the smoked brisket noodle bowl that became one of last year's most talked-about offerings. Meanwhile, award-winning restaurants Sky Room at Fairmont Breakers and Ammatoli will each feature special prix fixe menus, offering diners another way to experience some of Long Beach's top kitchens.

Uptown Jazz Fest | 2:00PM-7:00PM | 8.2.26
Looking for a fun way to spend your Saturday? Head to Houghton Park for the annual Uptown Jazz Festival, a free, family-friendly celebration of live music, community and culture. The afternoon event features performances from acclaimed jazz, soul and funk artists, plus food vendors, a Kids Zone and local community booths, making it an easy outing for music lovers of all ages. Get ready to dance the night away at Cara Borracho: Cumbia Night, coming to At The Top in Downtown Long Beach on Friday, Aug. 14. The lively evening will celebrate the rhythms of cumbia with Cara Borracho performing a mix of crowd-favorite hits and original music, creating the perfect soundtrack for a night out with friends. Guests can enjoy a full bar, food menu and an energetic atmosphere as they experience the vibrant sounds and danceable beats of this Latin music celebration. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the event running from 8 p.m. to midnight. This is a free event.
Line Dance Nights at 2nd&PCH | 6:00PM - 7:30PM | 8.12.26
Ready to kick up your boots? Line Dance Nights at 2ND & PCH invite dancers of all skill levels to Seaport Way on the second Wednesday of each month for a free evening of fun, featuring easy-to-follow instruction set to a mix of country favorites, R&B and pop hits. No partner or experience is needed—just bring your dancing shoes and enjoy a lively night of music, movement and waterfront vibes.
Autism Families Morning at The Aquarium of The Pacific | 7:00AM - 9:00 AM | 8.16.26
The Aquarium of the Pacific is hosting Autism Families Morning, a special event designed to provide a quieter, more comfortable experience for families with children or adults with autism. During the exclusive early morning hours, guests can explore the Aquarium's exhibits before it opens to the general public, offering a calmer environment to discover thousands of marine animals at their own pace. Advance reservations are required, and admission is $12 per person, with free entry for Aquarium members and children under 3.
Sunsets at LBMA | 5:00PM - 9:00PM | 8.20.26
Spend a summer evening surrounded by art, live music and ocean views at Sunsets at LBMA, the Long Beach Museum of Art's after-hours series. The free event features gallery admission, live performances, vinyl DJs, hands-on art activities and exhibition tours, with food and drinks available for purchase. It's the perfect opportunity to experience the museum in a relaxed, social setting while enjoying one of Long Beach's most scenic waterfront locations.
The evening begins with Trankis of the acclaimed all-women Chulita Vinyl Club, followed by a live performance from Oralia, whose lush blend of jazz, bossa nova, and global influences creates an intimate sunset atmosphere. Throughout the night, Good Luck Vinyl Club keeps the energy flowing with vinyl DJ sets between performances.
Headlining the evening are The Aquadolls, Long Beach's beloved "Mermaid Rock" quartet. Enjoy an opportunity to see one of the city's most recognizable indie acts in the unique setting of the Long Beach Museum of Art. The evening concludes with a vinyl set by Stoned Jett, who also serves as the lead singer of Oralia—bringing the night's musical journey full circle.
Summer Movie Night at LBX | 8:30PM – 10:30 PM | 8.21.26
Grab a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a summer movie under the stars at Long Beach Exchange's Summer Movie Night on Friday, Aug. 21. This free community event will feature a screening of the beloved baseball classic The Sandlot on the Hangar Lawn, making it a fun night out for families, friends and movie lovers of all ages. Arrive early to grab dinner from one of LBX's restaurants and settle in before the movie begins at dusk.
Dive-in Movie Night at McCormick Pool | 8:15PM | 8.21.26
Looking for a fun way to cool off this summer? Dive-In Movie Night at McCormick Pool invites families to enjoy a screening of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (Rated PG) while floating in the pool or relaxing poolside under the night sky.
The pool opens at 7:30 p.m., with the movie beginning at 8:15 p.m. Admission is $3 for Lakewood residents and $5 for non-residents. Lakewood residents must present a valid ID and proof of residency. Bring your swimsuit, arrive early to claim a spot, and enjoy an evening of swimming, family fun and a movie on the big screen.
Shoreline Park Half Marathon | 6:20AM-10:00AM | 8.23.26
Lace up your running shoes for the inaugural Shoreline Park Half Marathon on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Shoreline Aquatic Park. Runners of all experience levels can choose from a half marathon, 10K or 5K while taking in scenic waterfront views along the mostly flat course, including sights of the Queen Mary and Long Beach coastline. Every participant will receive a finisher medal, premium race swag and post-race refreshments, making it a fun and rewarding way to experience one of the city's most picturesque running routes.

The New Blues Music Festival returns to Long Beach for two full days dedicated to the rich sounds and spirit of blues and jazz. Blues is more than just a genre — it's a storytelling tradition that reflects life's struggles, joys, and everything in between. At this festival, you'll hear that raw emotion and soulful expression come alive on stage, creating an atmosphere that's both powerful and intimate. Past years have featured Buddy Guy, Shemekia Copeland, and Kingfish Ingram. This year's roster continues that tradition with a powerful mix of headliners, rising stars, and homegrown talent.
Our home at Shoreline Aquatic Park offers sweeping waterfront views, a cooling ocean breeze, and open green spaces perfect for picnics, dancing, or relaxing in the sun. The park's gentle slope gives every spot a sightline — whether you're up front by the stage or stretched out on a blanket further back.
Located just minutes from the Long Beach Convention Center, Aquarium of the Pacific, and downtown hotels, the festival is easily accessible by public transit, car, bike, or foot. Expect a powerful mix of national headliners, regional favorites, and local rising stars — and this year is shaping up to be our most diverse and dynamic lineup yet.
